What is the Shadow?

A Jungian theorist, named Edward C. Whitmont has my favorite definition:

"The shadow refers to that part of the personality that has been repressed for the sake of the ego's ideal."

In other words, we all have an Ego,  the part of us that commands our Consciousness -- that is, until we decide to foster a relationship with our Unconscious.

And for an infinite number of reasons, reasons both Cosmic and very simple, our Ego has an ideal which we do our best to act out each day through our Persona -- the face we show the world.

It's true that some individuals have a stronger persona than others. Those with too powerful of a persona, Jung claimed, are on the verge of a neurotic break.

To prevent this,

we maintain a relationship with our Dreams, Imagination, and our Cosmology. 

And that is my entire framework for Inner Light with Jane. The purpose of all my services is to encourage living into the Wholeness of our Spirits, so as to prevent any one part of us in becoming a Dictator or Tormentor.

When we feel sick, stuck, or plain neurotic, it usually indicates one part might have taken over -- and in our society, that's usually going to be the Persona and the Ego's Ideal. 

Anything, and I mean ANYTHING, that can interrupt this Ego's "ideal", whether it be seemingly Negative or POSITIVE, belongs to the Shadow Realm.

For instance the quality of being neat & tidy, even if considered positive, could be repressed in your Shadow if it does not fit your ideal.

The criminal we judge... the accountant we can't imagine being... the Political Party we dislike... the Influencer we admire...that memory of when you felt you did something mean-spirited... or that memory of when someone called you "talented"... 

All of that can live on in our Shadow if it doesn't resonate with our Ego's Ideal or if it is threatening to our Persona...

What does the Shadow have to do with this Lunar Eclipse in Pisces on the 17th?

It has everything to do with it.

During this portal, you will have found that living up to your Ego's Ideal, living up to your Persona, is harder than normal. In individual ways, that Ideal of yours is being challenged, and for good reason. It's time to shed some skin before the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra, where we can actualize our new Self in our relationships.

What's much easier to do right now is to explore aspects of your Unconscious. It's time to get out of your Persona a bit, and try to put some space between yourself and your Ego's Ideal.

We do not want to destroy our Persona or our Ego. We NEED them! However, at this time, the Cosmology indicates they just can't be our priority. Pushing and trying for an Ideal does not resonate with Pisces and the Moon's role, which both help us Surrender, Let Go.

Below are the areas of life where the Ego's Ideal is being challenged by the Lunar Eclipse in Pisces.

🐏 Aries Rising - Let go of an Ideal that you may have in what it means to be Spiritual, what it means to Meditate, or what it means to be Alone. Go with what is True for you, not what is True for others in this department.

🐂 Taurus Rising - Let go of an Ideal that you may have when it comes to your Aspirations and Visions for yourself and what they "should" be like. Stay true to your Heart's Desire, not your Ego's Desire.

👯‍♀️ Gemini Rising - Let go of an Ideal that you may have when it comes to what makes you "Purposeful" or a "productive member of society". What does that even mean?

🦀 Cancer Rising - Let go of an Ideal that you may have when it comes to what you should or should not Believe In, or what you should or should not Study. What is calling to your Soul to Learn?

🦁 Leo Rising - Let go of an Ideal that you may have that is preventing you from being honest about your Shadow, that could be preventing you from trusting your Unconscious a bit more. Let go of an Ideal that wants you to ignore your innate psychology.

👩‍🌾 Virgo Rising - Let go of an Ideal that you may have when it comes to your commitments, your relationships with other individuals, your 1:1 relationships and what they "should" be like. Let your relationships and commitments breathe a little, let them be what they are for you.

⚖️ Libra Rising - Let go of an Ideal that you may have when it comes to the way that you spend your day and what that should look or be like. What your daily tasks should or should not be. And let go of an Ideal you may have about your body that is keeping you from having a healthy relationship to it.

🦂 Scorpio Rising - Let go of an Ideal that you may have when it comes to what brings you Pleasure, what brings you Joy and what that "should" be like. What feels Creative for you is Creative, it does not have to look the same way for someone else.

🐎 Sagittarius Rising - Let go of an Ideal that you may have about your Home and Family, and what that relationship "should" be like. Let go of an Ideal around Belonging and what that looks like. When do you feel in your Heart that you Belong? Go with that.

🐐 Capricorn Rising - Let go of an ideal that you may have about your Mind and the way that you "should" think, and the topics that you "should" talk about. Let go of an ideal that you have around sibling relationships, or neighbor relationships, and what they "should" be like.

⛲️ Aquarius Rising - Let go of an ideal that you may have that is holding you back from Valuing your Self or that prevents you from sticking to your Principles. An Ideal is different from a Principle. A Principle comes from the deepest part of ourselves, such as "Love" or "Peace" or "Health". Be true to your Principles.

🐡 Pisces Rising - Let go of an ideal that you may have around what you "should" be like and how you should "appear" to the world. Release an aspect of your Persona that is holding you back from sharing a part of yourself that you deserve to share with the World. We need you.
